Being Proactive with our Health
This week I am going to talk about the importance of proactive Health. I read an article a long time ago that said that the happiest people in the world came from a small poor village where the elderly generation was strong and mobile from years of hard work. That article has always stuck with me. The happiest people on Earth do not have generational wealth, influence, or fame. The happiest people on Earth have their health and they are mobile and strong into their elderly years. I just read another article recently where a Gereatric Doctor started asking his patients what they would have done differently if they could go back in time. His assumption was that they would say, spend more time with family. In reality they said they would be more proactive with their health.
The unfortunate truth is that today is the youngest you will ever be and this body is the only one you have so chances are if you don’t take care of it now you will be dealing with complications later on like joint replacements, limited range of motion, imbalances, stiffness, pain and even disease. When I ask people why they don’t exercise, the excuses I get most commonly are time and money. I get it, time is a luxury and money can be tight but you have to look at exercise as an investment into your future. Everyone needs to budget time on the calendar to do something for themselves. And anyone on any budget can get outside and walk, do pushups and situps on the bedroom floor. I personally think you need to find an activity that you love so you stay motivated to continue doing it. For me, no surprise here, it’s Pilates. I love that pilates focuses on core strength and stability while also increasing mobility and posture work. (Also, how bad can a workout be when you are laying down for part of it!)
